9 to 5, that’s not us

HELLO

Welcome to Adventure Weekenders – a simple journey of two people escaping the weekly ‘nine-to-five’ grind one adventure at a time.

WHO WE ARE

We’re Amber and Troy, a couple from the North of England. We’re lucky enough to live within driving distance of some of England’s most beautiful and diverse National Parks – and we try to make the most of it!

Contrary to this post title, we rarely do the whole 9-to-5 working week thing. We’re both young professionals (an engineer and a PhD research scientist) and so it goes that the boundary between when work ends and our evenings begin has become increasingly blurred. Spending all of our working week indoors, attached to computer screens, labs and meetings has done nothing but drive us to expand our passion for the outdoors. We try to make the most of every weekend we can and this blog will be an extension of that where we can share our (hopefully) interesting experiences with you.

WHAT WE GET UP TO

Mostly you’ll find us hiking, looking out for the best scrambling routes or more often than not, bickering over who took the wrong turn for the umpteenth time this year. We’re fortunate enough to have had some amazing experiences in 2017 including:

White-water rafting down the Soča Valley

Soča Valley, Slovenia

Hiking up mountains that straddle countries in the Alps

Climbing Hochstuhl – the highest mountain in the Karawanks

Trekking though the tropical Balinese countryside to discover beautiful waterfalls

One of many waterfalls surrounding beautiful Munduk, Bali

‘Via Ferrata-ing’ our way along the vertical cliffs of Honister Slate Mine

… And topping out on dozens of mountains across the Lake District, Peak District, Snowdonia and Yorkshire Dales.

Topping out on Haystacks, Lake District

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM US

This blog is a place for us to share our hiking routes, our gear and any of our other adventures with you.

We’re novices, we’re not experts and we have a lot to learn. Hopefully this winter we will attempt some of our first winter mountaineering training and more technical climbs.

Keep your eyes peeled for posts – we promise to try and make it a regular thing!
